A defense lawyer and family members arrange to submit paperwork in the afternoon, waiting until around 5:00 PM due to trial delays. The court clerk accepted the lawyer’s documentation but refused to accept paperwork designating a family member or friend as a defender, claiming only “immediate family” (直系亲属) are permitted to act as non-lawyer defenders (violating Article 33 of China’s Criminal Procedure Law).

Plainclothes police officers wait outside Wang Xiaomei’s residence (Guangtai Community) near her vehicle as she prepares to leave for work. They intercept her and forcibly force her back into her home. Without presenting any legal documents or evidence, police search and ransack her apartment. She is taken to the Xinhua Police Station under the Gaocheng District Police Bureau for questioning, then transferred to the Shijiazhuang City Second Detention Center, where she remains held.
