Changping District Detention Center is managed by the Changping Branch of Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau. Many Falun Gong practitioners are temporarily detained here after being abducted by police. Among the hundreds of Falun Gong practitioners who were sentenced to forced labor, many have been detained and tortured here before they were transferred to re-education or labor camps. Some of the main torture methods* include: *Including, but not limited to Featured Prisoners of Conscience Mr. Feng Qingdong, an employee of the Thomson Reuters Beijing Office, was arrested at his rental residence in the TiantongYuan Community in the Changping District on the afternoon of October 23, 2011. He was detained for a few months in Changping Detention Center, and then transferred to Xin'an Forced Labor Camp in 2012 where he was incarcerated for 2 years. Ms. Wang was arrested at a tourist attraction on October 6, 2020, after being reported for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. While she was detained here, she had to be hospitalized three times. She became emancipated due to the torture and lost 40 pounds within 6 months. When she was released, an ambulance had to take her home on a stretcher and she was only 80 pounds. Despite her condition, court personnel arrived at her house 10 days later and sentenced the 67-year-old Beijing resident to 2.5 years and fined her 5,000 yuan. She was made to stand trial at the detention center in early April 2021. She was handcuffed to the chair and had to lean on it because of her deteriorated health.
