Beijing No. 2 Prison

Beijing No. 2 Prison is 13 miles from the National Speed Skating Oval being used during the Olympics, where the speed skating event is held.

Beijing No. 2 Prison belongs to the Beijing Prison Administration Bureau, and mainly detains criminals that have been sentenced to life in prison or felons who received the death sentence. This location is commonly used as a transit stop for sentenced Falun Gong practitioners before they are transferred to a larger prison or labor camp, but it is sometimes also used to detain Falun Gong practitioners.

Mr. Shi Shaoping (50), a Master’s degree scientist from the Photochemical Institute at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was sentenced to nine years in April 2021 for practicing Falun Gong.

He was previously jailed for ten years in Qianjin Prison, where guards coerced violent criminals to monitor and torture him. As a result, he developed muscle atrophy because the other inmates forced him to sit on a small stool without moving for nearly 20 hours each day. They also deprived Shi of sleep and did not let him use the restroom for an entire month.
