Today, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) looms large on the international stage, posing a grave threat to people around the world.
The CCP’s tyrannical nature has been normalized in the West, often for political or financial gains. Consequently, the CCP’s threat is mostly overlooked or underestimated. Yet in the wake of the pandemic, it is more clear than ever that the CCP is willing to sacrifice countless lives to stay in power, and perhaps even dominate the world.
How do we accurately assess this threat, and what can we do about it?
One could start by examining the plight of the Buddhist-based spiritual group Falun Gong. For the past 22 years, millions of people who practice Falun Gong in China have been imprisoned, tortured, or killed. Today, some of the CCP’s tactics used on Falun Gong are now being deployed against House Christians, Uyghurs, Hong Kong, and indeed, many peoples around the world who value freedom of conscience.
Falun Gong is patient zero for the 21st century CCP’s high-tech, financially interconnected tyranny. The better we understand the Falun Gong story, the better we understand the threat we all face, and perhaps, gain insight into how we may respond. After all, the Falun Gong community has emerged as the single biggest whistleblower of the CCP’s crimes.
But why don’t we hear about them in the western media? Who exactly are the Falun Gong, and why are they so brutally persecuted?
With this press update, we endeavor to answer these important questions.
Levi Browde, Executive Director Falun Dafa Information Center
An independent report by Freedom House found that millions of people in China continue to practice Falun Gong, despite the decades-long Chinese Communist Party (CCP) campaign to eradicate the spiritual group, including many individuals who took up the discipline after the repression began. This represents a striking failure of the CCP’s security apparatus to stifle freedom of belief through systematic employment of wrongful imprisonment and violence.
“[The Communist Party initiated] the worst instance of religious persecution since the Cultural Revolution, with the clampdown against Falun Gong.”
—André Laliberté, Ottawa University, leading scholar on religion in China, 2015
“Orders for arrests continue to come down from high-level authorities, but sometimes the Public Security Bureau agents will say no, they are only exercising to be healthy.”

For more than 20 years, a shadowy security force in China has terrorized its citizenry with impunity. Some China experts call it “China’s Gestapo.” The extralegal agency was established with the sole purpose to persecute and completely eliminate the spiritual practice of Falun Gong. Chinese officials have tried to hide its existence, but recent developments have begun to unmask this nefarious security force.
The harrowing tale of how six ordinary Chinese citizens hacked into the television broadcasting system of the Chinese Communist Party. Their goal was to expose one of the gravest, state sponsored lies in Chinese history. It was an event that sparked an information revolution that challenged oppressive regimes around the world, from Beijing to Tehran, and continues to reverberate today.
A series of news and magazine articles published in the U.S. recently grossly distort the beliefs of the Falun Gong community. In fact, these articles mimic with shocking similarity the hate-filled propaganda prominent in communist China. What exactly is going on? Why would these U.S. media companies engage in this kind of bigotry?
In an attempt to brainwash detainees into renouncing their spiritual faith and pledging allegiance to the Chinese Communist Party, officials resort to brutal torture methods in Chinese prisons. This is a personal account from a Falun Gong practitioner, Mr. Gang Chen, who was tortured in a Beijing prison.
Ms. Gao Rongrong, a 37-year-old accountant at an art college in Shenyang, China had a radiant smile and joyful disposition. All that changed when she was unlawfully detained and tortured as part of the nation-wide campaign to crush Falun Gong. Photos and video footage of her ordeal were smuggled out of China, and sent shock waves through the human rights community.
Over the past decade, reports have emerged that the Chinese regime is killing prisoners of conscience to supply its vast, lucrative organ transplantation industry. New evidence and figures mined from primary Chinese sources are now uncovering the nature and scale of these abuses.
For the last 20 years you might have heard people talking about them on the TV and radio. Maybe you’ve seen them holding rallies and peaceful protests around the world. Who are these people? What motivates them? And how might their struggle to expose the Chinese Communist Party have far reaching implications for all of us?
From ancient roots extending back thousands of years, to a house-hold name in China during the Qigong boom in the 1990s, to the largest group of prisoners of conscience in the world, this is the complete story of Falun Gong.
The persecution campaign against Falun Gong in China has devastated the lives of tens of millions of people. This report assembles key indicators assembled from western journalists and overseas human rights workers.
Over the past two decades, a wide range of international human rights groups have independently documented and recounted the systematic rights abuses – including torture and deaths in custody – suffered by those who practice Falun Gong in China.
