After losing both of her parents to the Chinese regime’s persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. Sun Yujiao (30) was imprisoned with a 7-year term for her faith.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual practice that has been targeted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) since 1999.

Ms. Sun was arrested at her home in Mengyin County, Shandong Province on June 10, 2021. Police broke in and searched her home. They confiscated Falun Gong books and brochures, a computer, and a printer.

Police then took Ms. Sun to the police station where they interrogated her and then transferred her to the Linyi Detention Center.

Father’s Sudden Death

Eight days later, Ms. Sun’s father, Mr. Sun Pinjin was arrested at his place of work in the early evening. The next day the family was informed that he had died. Mr. Sun’s two brothers and a sister-in-law were summoned to a local hospital at 2:30 p.m. to verify his identity. They said that dozens of officers surrounded and harassed them when they arrived, which left them deeply traumatized.

An officer from the 610 Office claimed that Mr. Sun Pinjin had refused to get tested for the Coronavirus, and had jumped off the building to his immediate death. The police cordoned off the scene and didn’t allow anyone to get close. The officer’s testimony proved to be highly suspicious.

When Mr. Sun’s family members saw his body at Mengyin County Funeral Home, they found that he was leaking brain fluid, one of his eyeballs was missing, and his abdomen and half of his head were sunken. Against their wishes, the police continued to refuse doing an autopsy on his body.

The authorities arranged for the police to closely monitor Mr. Sun’s brothers and his father-in-law, who were not allowed to hire a lawyer, appeal the case, or contact any Falun Gong practitioners. They weren’t even allowed to discuss Mr. Sun’s death with others. Police officers also patrolled Mr. Sun’s village to monitor the villagers, intimidating them into silence.

On June 26, Chinese authorities forced Mr. Sun’s family to cremate his body, leaving the real cause of his death a permanent mystery. This is a common tactic used by the Chinese authorities to hide the evidence of physical torture or of organ harvesting.

Mother Passed Away in 2015

Mr. Sun died six years after his wife, Ms. Yu Zaihua, who had also passed from the Chinese regime’s persecution of Falun Gong.

For speaking out against the persecution of her faith, Ms. Yu was arrested, held in a brainwashing center, and given a grueling labor camp term. After being released in 2004, she was forced to live in hiding, away from her home, to avoid more arrests. For 11 years, she lived a destitute life. In July 2015, she had developed edema (swelling from fluid build-up in bodily tissues) and died on August 19, 2015. She was 47 years of age.

Today, only 9 months after her father’s tragic death and 7 years after her mother’s passing, the daughter Sun Yujiao has been sentenced to 7 years in jail. She is being held at Shandong Province Women’s Prison. It’s suspected that CCP authorities gave Sun Yujiao a lengthy term to prevent her from seeking justice for her recently deceased father.
