A Crisis in China Foretells Global Threat

Today, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) looms large on the international stage, posing a grave threat to people around the world.

The CCP’s tyrannical nature has been normalized in the West, often for political or financial gains. Consequently, the CCP’s threat is mostly overlooked or underestimated. Yet in the wake of the pandemic, it is more clear than ever that the CCP is willing to sacrifice countless lives to stay in power, and perhaps even dominate the world.

How do we accurately assess this threat, and what can we do about it?

One could start by examining the plight of the Buddhist-based spiritual group Falun Gong. For the past 22 years, millions of people who practice Falun Gong in China have been imprisoned, tortured, or killed. Today, some of the CCP’s tactics used on Falun Gong are now being deployed against House Christians, Uyghurs, Hong Kong, and indeed, many peoples around the world who value freedom of conscience.

Falun Gong is patient zero for the 21st century CCP’s high-tech, financially interconnected tyranny. The better we understand the Falun Gong story, the better we understand the threat we all face, and perhaps, gain insight into how we may respond. After all, the Falun Gong community has emerged as the single biggest whistleblower of the CCP’s crimes.

But why don’t we hear about them in the western media? Who exactly are the Falun Gong, and why are they so brutally persecuted?

With this press update, we endeavor to answer these important questions.

Sincerely,

Levi Browde, Executive Director
Falun Dafa Information Center

An independent report by Freedom House found that millions of people in China continue to practice Falun Gong, despite the decades-long Chinese Communist Party (CCP) campaign to eradicate the spiritual group, including many individuals who took up the discipline after the repression began. This represents a striking failure of the CCP’s security apparatus to stifle freedom of belief through systematic employment of wrongful imprisonment and violence.

“[The Communist Party initiated] the worst instance of religious persecution since the Cultural Revolution, with the clampdown against Falun Gong.”

—André Laliberté, Ottawa University, leading scholar on religion in China, 2015

“Orders for arrests continue to come down from high-level authorities, but sometimes the Public Security Bureau agents will say no, they are only exercising to be healthy.”

—Chinese human rights lawyer, 2013

For more than 20 years, a shadowy security force in China has terrorized its citizenry with impunity. Some China experts call it “China’s Gestapo.” The extralegal agency was established with the sole purpose to persecute and completely eliminate the spiritual practice of Falun Gong. Chinese officials have tried to hide its existence, but recent developments have begun to unmask this nefarious security force.
